As agreed in the strategic partnership established in 2018, ORIOR AG has now acquired the final tranche of shares in casualfood GmbH as of 8 September 2022. The company shares in casualfood GmbH have all been gradually transferred to the listed Swiss food and beverage group as planned. As part of this process, casualfood founders Stefan Weber and Michael Weigel will be withdrawing from the management of casualfood and will be on hand on the newly established strategic advisory board for the next years alongside ORIOR CEO Daniel Lutz and CFO Andreas Lindner.

Press Release: Payment via PayPal QR Code – New service at all casualfood restaurants and stores throughout Germany

casualfood offers the utmost in convenience: customers at all casualfood restaurants and stores in airports and stations throughout Germany can now choose to use PayPal directly at the till. PayPal makes it possible for users to pay for goods in a matter of seconds using a QR code. The technical implementation was handled by epay, a firm specialising in electronic payments, vouchers and prepaid solutions. An interface was used to integrate the solution into the existing checkout system Addipos. casualfood had already worked with epay to introduce the Chinese payment systems Alipay and WeChat Pay alongside classic card payments to cater specifically for Chinese customers.

The new Berlin Brandenburg Airport has opened. casualfood is the largest food-service operator at the airport with a total of twelve permanent outlets plus several mobiles in Terminals 1, 2 and 5. The travel catering firm has developed three new food-service brands for BER: east side berlin, Berlin Pub and Deli Berlin plus the associated Deli Berlin Mobiles offer a genuine taste of Berlin. They draw on the city’s history and offer guests a wide range of dishes from both East and West Berlin. Customers will also find casualfood’s established, successful concepts at the airport: Goodman & Filippo, Hermann’s, Beans & Barley, basta!, Kilkenny Pub, QUICKER’s and Kamps, which is run as a franchise. The majority of casualfood’s food-service concepts at BER are on the air side, i.e. after security.

Press Release: casualfood develops innovative solution – grilling with no exhaust air at airports

Turning what was formerly a retail store into a food service outlet was once inconceivable at airports due to the lack of air extraction systems. But casualfood has come up with a solution: together with their partner they have developed an innovative solution comprising an indirect grill and special recirculating air technology for their new Hermann’s restaurant at Frankfurt Airport. This has been put to use and has passed all the tests and met all of Frankfurt Airport’s stringent specifications. This means up to 250 sausages can now be grilled every hour within a retail space – and without any exhaust air or unpleasant odours.  Read more

 2018 was another successful year for casualfood: the company finished the year with net sales of €57.3 million, representing year-on-year growth of eleven per cent. Two new concepts were launched in 2018 – Brezel Lovers and Beans & Barley. Several other concepts were relaunched and the successful QUICKER’s stores are due a makeover in 2019. In addition to all this, casualfood is building additional ServiceStore DB shops in conjunction with the railway company Deutsche Bahn. At the same time, the company appreciates the value of its staff and has put extensive employee development and retention programmes in place.

New GOODMAN & FILIPPO at Cologne Bonn Airport

casualfood launches second Italian-American deli concept

Introducing a new GOODMAN & FILIPPO at Cologne Bonn Airport. With an area of 200 sq. m and seating for 120 people, the Italian-American deli is much larger than the initial concept at Düsseldorf Airport. The new location also offers a fully equipped kitchen, which means that meals can be cooked, pan-fried and deep-fried, as well as cooked sous vide. The location of the second GOODMAN & FILIPPO is also different: The new deli is opening in terminal 1 in landside departures – so, before and not after security – making it not just accessible to passengers and airport staff, but to anyone.

Another success for casualfood in Germany: At the Airport Food & Beverage Award (FAB Award) in Toronto, the Italian-American GOODMAN & FILIPPO deli concept won the category “Best New Food & Beverage Concept of the Year” in Europe. The FAB Award represents all areas of the airport food and beverage sector. Almost 250 entries were on the shortlist this year in a variety of categories and were evaluated by the panel for innovation, performance, suitability for the travel sector, service and quality.
