casualfood world in qm

Dear casualfood-Partner,

We hope you had a great summer! A lot has happened at casualfood once again. We opened a Superfood pop-up store at short notice at Frankfurt Airport. We realised the ServiceStore DB Selection concept for Deutsche Bahn at railway stations.

Our Marketing team was out and about making our new image film. In August, 5 trainees embarked on their exciting apprenticeships at casualfood. And last, but not least, Mark Hallstein of Fraport talks about how our first Italian food service concept MONDO came about.

We hope you enjoy reading our newsletter!

Best regards

New Superfood pop-up store at Frankfurt Airport.

SUPERFOOD pop-up Store

We launched a new concept at Frankfurt Airport in June. The pop-up store Superfood by NATURAL is aimed at the ever-growing client base that’s embracing health-conscious eating. This is our way of showing that healthy food really can be both “fast” and “to go”. Our new takeaway store measuring 35 square metres is located airside in Terminal A. Its motto is food which is both healthy and delicious!

Video-Production casualfood

Our Marketing team spent two weeks untiringly travelling around with luggage and a film team to produce our new image film. They visited various casualfood concepts in Frankfurt and Cologne to shoot scenes for the film. We even had music composed specifically for the film. Take a look – we look forward to hearing what you think of it!

ServiceStore DB Selection

We realised a new concept for Deutsche Bahn. The new ServiceStore DB Selection concept offers an array of snacks and beverages within 7.5 square metres of space directly on railway platforms. We have realised two pilot stores at Berlin’s Bornholmer Straße rapid transit station. The stores have been such a success that more are scheduled to be rolled out across the capital. The concept’s signature product is a hot dog in a baguette roll.

Our new trainees.

trainees casualfood 2019

We are delighted to welcome five new trainees on board! Over the next three years, they will work at our casualfood stores and restaurants for qualifications as sales assistants, logistics specialists, system catering experts and office managers. We currently have 15 trainees working at casualfood, because training the next generation of workers is particularly important to us. Our industry needs motivated employees more now than ever before – and we at casualfood are doing a great deal to make sure we have them. It goes without saying that we give our trainees a guarantee that they will be taken on permanently and will have great promotion prospects if they do well in their apprenticeships!

4 questions for...

QUICKER's im neuen LookMark Hallstein, Senior Category Manager, Food & Beverage, Fraport

For how long have you now been working with casualfood?
Since 2005, so from the very beginning. Back then, there wasn’t nearly enough space dedicated to food services at Frankfurt Airport. Stefan Weber and I had discussed this and he then came to me with an idea soon after. And within a relatively short space of time, we were already unloading our first food cart off a lorry.

Do you have any anecdotes about your work together?
When casualfood was still a very new company, we had the opportunity to develop an all-day concept for Terminal 2. We came up with the idea of an Italian coffee bar, so we travelled to Italy to do some market research. We spent two days trying out a large number of traditional coffee bars in Turin and Alba. This resulted in our Italian food service concept MONDO, which has proved to be a sustained success.

What has changed over the years?
casualfood has obviously experienced strong growth and has become increasingly professional over the years. There are now so many different innovative concepts and units, it’s really quite big. Stefan Weber and Michael Weigel have performed the balancing act of having a growing organisation and being able to respond to market changes quickly. What makes the company especially agile is the high level of latitude that casualfood managers have. It has been great to accompany casualfood through this process.

What is it that sets casualfood apart?
With casualfood, the initial outline and the subsequent realisation fit together perfectly. On the one hand, Stefan Weber and Michael Weigel succeed in creating aesthetically pleasing concepts. And on the other, everything they draft on paper is entirely feasible. Additionally, casualfood is very fast and responds directly to the latest market developments, as demonstrated once again just recently by its new Superfood pop-up concept – an opportunity presented itself to use some space temporarily and casualfood was ready to go with a new idea. That’s impressive, and there aren’t many out there in the market that can do this.
